Job Description

The HR Business Partner position provides consulting and analysis for a range of Human Resource services including employee and labor relations; classification; and talent management: including the acquisition, development and retention of employees; employee development; and recruitment. This position partners with supervisors, managers and administrators throughout the campus to ensure organizational effectiveness through proper alignment of people, processes, structure, and culture. Participates in the establishment of plans to effectively communicate college strategies and objectives and implements change initiatives designed to support those goals. Partners with division leaders to assess and monitor progress toward attaining strategic goals and objectives, and designs and implements programs and processes to further those goals. 
 
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES  
Talent Acquisition Talent acquisition responsibilities encompass search process design and metrics, new employee on-boarding, and building talent pipelines. 
 
Classification/Compensation Classification and Compensation includes job audits, salary placements, and position descriptions. 
 
Employee/Labor Relations Provide employee and labor relations advising and expertise for employees, supervisors and managers to ensure understanding of and compliance with employment laws and regulations, college and Minnesota State policies, and bargaining agreements and personnel plans. 
 
Diversity and Inclusion Assist in the planning and coordination of college-wide diversity and inclusion programing and training. Represent the Human Resources department by serving on the College’s work group for Attracting and Hiring Diverse Faculty and Staff, which expands the College’s efforts to reach a more diverse pool of qualified candidates and eliminate barriers in the interviewing and hiring processes. Serve as a member of the President’s Council on Diversity. 
 
Talent Management Assist in the planning and coordination of college-wide professional training and development activities, employee recognition events, employee engagement activities, succession planning, and employee retention planning. 

Process Improvement Coordinate ongoing process improvement efforts so that college policies are up-to-date; processes are streamlined, efficient, and effective; and HR is able to provide timely, high quality service. 
 
Committee Work Actively represent the Human Resources department by participating on campus–wide committees, search committees, and campus-wide project teams.

Required Qualifications

• Professional level human resources experience; or at least two (2) years of human resources experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience suitable for this position. 
• Professional human resources experience in functional areas such as talent acquisition, compensation, classification, employee relations, labor relations, and/or training and development 
• Knowledge of employment law such as: FMLA , FLSA , ADA , EEO  
• Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws 
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills 
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, with sensitivity, and discretion 
• Ability to maintain confidentiality 
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including making presentations to groups 
• Excellent process facilitation and project management skills 
• Proficient computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office applications 
• Experience working with individuals from diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law or a similar
field
• Five (5) or more years of human resources experience
• Professional Human Resources certification
• Experience working in a union environment

Must be in good standings with Minneapolis College.
