Thank you for your continued interest in working at the University of Minnesota.QualificationsEssential Qualifications:* High school graduate with six (6) months of general labor and large animal handling experience.* A valid Minnesota Driver’s License (A or C Class).* Must be able to lift up to 120lbs; 70lbs continuously; 70-100lbs frequently; 100-120lbs occasionally.* Pesticide applicators license obtained by end of probationary period.Desired Qualifications:* Commercial driver’s license.About the JobPosition and/or Unit Overview:This position will have the primary responsibility for performing a variety of manual labor tasks related to general facility labor and providing assistance to carpenter and or mechanic as well as assistance to calving operations at NCROC. The position is a 100 percent, 12 month continuing appointment.Major Areas of Accountability:(These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this class.)General Facility Labor (45%)* Loads and unloads trucks. Dismantles, packs, and reassembles supplies, laboratory instruments, and other materials. Moves furniture, office equipment, tables, benches, chairs, refuse, garbage, supplies, and various kinds of heavy equipment.* Operates mowers, tractors and other farm machines in plowing, disking, cutting, spraying agricultural and forestry plots/pastures.* Assist in greenhouse activities, moves and assists in transplanting plants from greenhouse to field. Weeds farm or garden plots.* Sets up/takes down equipment and furniture required for special center events and meetings.* Mows/rakes lawns, general weeding, grooming of lawns. Weeds farm/research plots as required. Sweeps and shovels snow and debris from steps and sidewalks.* Makes minor repairs in facility infrastructure (e.g. sidewalks, signage, and animal areas).Assist Carpenter and/or Mechanic (35%)* Moves lumber and other carpentry supplies in assisting maintenance carpenter in projects. Repairs or sets up fencing, including drilling post holes, hauling supplies and equipment. Sets up/removes rough forms for construction work and mixes, moves concrete and equipment.* Assists mechanic in assembly and makes adjustments and minor repairs to farm machinery, including operation maintenance shop hydraulic crane for engine removals, etc. Cleans, greases, oils, and services tractors, trucks, and other farm equipment.Assist in routine handling, breeding, and feeding of livestock and calving operations (20%)* Herding and/or hauling animals.* Cleaning and maintenance of animal facilities.* Minor repair work of equipment, such as waters, feeders, feed wagons, and electric motors.* Performs simple data collection, recording of beef and pasture records as requested.About the DepartmentThe position is located at the North Central Research and Outreach Center (NCROC) in Grand Rapids, MN.
