Director, Data Strategy – Telecommute

Optum Enterprise Analytics seeks a Director, Data Strategy to expand and lead several key aspects of our work: the refinement and operation of a data literacy program and the productization and operation of our data acquisition program, to support the evolution of business-critical enterprise data assets.

You will be the strategic product leader charged both with setting vision for these programs and with working hands-on to make that vision a reality.

You will take existing, less mature processes and programs and evolve them to better serve the needs of the organization, and you will drive improvements to our organization’s research capabilities through both increasing access to expanded data assets as well as increasing understanding of healthcare, healthcare data and data management, data-oriented technologies and AI/ML techniques.
You will work with stakeholders across analytics, data, legal, privacy & compliance, engineering and business partner teams to develop, justify, and execute key programs that advance OptumLabs analytics and data capabilities.

In order to do this, the Director will have a strong understanding of health care, OptumLabs capabilities, and customer needs.
You will have accountability for developing and operating programs; to oversee the creation and dissemination of curriculum and literacy programs, and for productizing the process of identifying and prioritizing strategic data needs, sourcing internal and external data assets, and developing a re-usable contracting processes.

You will work with your Data Strategy colleagues to develop a re-usable method for data use case collection and ROI analysis, and then you will put those programs in operation to identify, secure and intake new data assets for research use, acting as a strategic partner to business owners.

You will be as comfortable developing and delivering detailed, complex project plans as developing executive-facing presentations.

This role will have responsibility for partnering with leaders in Optum Enterprise Analytics, OptumHealth and OptumRx to provide thought leadership, strategic direction, and program delivery.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within United States as you take on some tough challenges.

Must be available for international meetings.
Primary Responsibilities:
Nurture and develop trust-based relationships with leaders across the enterprise.

Identify and build relationships with internal strategic business leaders to develop an ongoing process for understanding their business strategy and goals and tying those goals to existing and new data assets Develop a community of internal data strategists, to enable cross-company data needs assessments, use cases, and ROI analysis Maintain ongoing relationships with external and internal data vendors Develop clear roadmaps, prioritize backlogs, lead POC’s, etc.

to improve data assets, processes, create efficiencies and deliver value and a path forward despite ambiguity and complexities.

Become an expert on the company’s data ecosystems and data assets: Includes researching and documenting those ecosystems, assets, and owners.

Help drive efforts to develop useful data catalogs Be a data SME across our enterprise data product portfolio and drive adoption of best practices across that portfolio Be aware of trends in healthcare data, including data policy, legislation impacting data availability, shifts in the healthcare data landscape, competitive data assets, etc.

Develop a repeatable process for new data acquisition.

Work with Data Strategy colleagues to develop a re-usable method for data use case collection, ROI analysis and data need prioritization Develop a repeatable data asset contracting process for both external and internal data assets, in conjunction with legal & compliance Identify, contract, and intake new external and internal data assets and work with data strategy colleagues to establish data profiles, data documentation, data training and supported use cases for newly landed data assets.

Support, but not responsible for, the development of data pipelines Develop and implement a Data Literacy Program.

Work with business partners to identify and prioritize data literacy needs, develop a curriculum and lead the development or sourcing of training assets (user guides, white papers, training courses, catalogs, etc.) to meet those needs, and develop a process to evaluate literacy program effectiveness and identify new requirements.

Engage with training platform partners to disseminate and market literacy programs and documentation Develop and maintain a community of internal data literacy providers and consumers Explore avenues of external thought leadership (conference presentations, external publishing, opinion pieces, white papers, etc.) You must love healthcare data and be able to mentor/teach and communicate the value and rationale of different data needs, enrichments, and data use cases This role requires having an analytic mindset and a passion for putting healthcare data to use serving business and research needs You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of experience leading data strategy or data or analytic teams (direct or cross-matrixed) responsible for developing, managing or delivering data products / processes, or data/analytics warehouses, with client delivery or commercial accountability 5+ years of experience leading new data acquisition efforts from the business and operational side (less technology-focused) 5+ years of deep healthcare data knowledge and understanding 3+ years of experience preparing and presenting value cases and strategic frameworks at the VP or “C” level Experience across multiple healthcare data types (e.g.

administrative claims, hospital billing / discharge, EMR / clinical, inventory / supplies for healthcare, etc.) Experience interfacing with business leaders and strategic partners to develop strategic business plans and data roadmaps Experience with developing and implementing a healthcare data literacy program If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener.

MBA or advanced degree equivalent 1+ years of experience working in highly matrixed organizations and natural collaborator Experience working in management consulting and/or Professional Services and/or Corporate Development and/or internal delivery-focused consulting organization Experience leading and influencing cross-matrixed team members and stakeholders, and delivering quantifiable results with large-scale, cross-functional teams Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects to ensure their quality and on-time delivery Operational experience (operations, product development, marketing, finance, sales, etc.) in a large, complex organization Experience working independently to define and drive complex workstreams Careers at UnitedHealth Group.

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $110,200 to $211,700.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
